Summer Goals + A Life Update

Hi! I hope you’re all doing well and have exciting plans for the summer months, whether that be a short weekend planned or an entire summer of awesome shit going on.

I wanted to share with you guys what’s been up in my life lately along with what I am visualizing for this summer. It’s mostly a life update, but I’m hoping my ~summer goalz~ might be of some inspiration or something to you! I’ll try to make this a useful post for you in some way, shape or form. Either way, I’m glad I get to share with you what’s been going on!

First of all, I’ll be doing some archaeology field work in Tanzania beginning in 9 days. Basically the game plan is that I will fly out of the USA on the 16th and will spend 6 weeks camping in a tent in the Serengeti. I am excited. Very excited. Like, I feel like writing this I don’t sound very excited but I really just don’t know how to express this. This wasn’t something I ever dreamed of doing, literally ever, it just seemed so out of reach. But I’m going to be LIVING ON SAFARI. I’m so excited!!!!

This field school consists of people from all over the world but I’m lucky enough to already be friends with two girls also going. It’s going to be SO MUCH FUN. But, I can’t lie – it hasn’t really hit me, the whole living in a tent, sleeping on the ground for 6 weeks. I have never camped a day in my life. No shower. V little Wifi. …It will be an experience! Haha, I mean, at least I will come back with some good stories, and probably feeling a little humbled. I’m so excited. I’m open to the adventure.

If you’re interested at all in the specific site I’ll be at, we are staying at a camp near Olduvai Gorge, where the laetoli footprint was found by the Leakeys. It’s by the Serengeti along the African Rift Valley, and we are mostly there to study rocks and soils, and some fauna. It’s technically a geology course, but we have independent projects and mine will be archaeology-geared, as that is my major. This is a super important site and I genuinely can’t believe I get to study there. I can’t believe it. Like, it really hasn’t hit me yet. If you have ever taken a bioanthropology or any evolution class in your life, you have definitely talked about this site. And I just can’t believe I’m going to study there myself.

Some random other news includes: I bought a new camera! I bought a decently nice camera (it’s a Nikon Coolpix L340) and, if any of you are photography buffs, you’re probably thinking “Psssh. That camera is not near the hype she’s about to put into it. Super n00b.” And you’re not wrong. But it is quite the upgrade from using your phone camera your whole life, and I am pretty dayyum excited about it! I’ve been wanting to buy a camera to take better photos for my blog anyway, but now seemed like the most appropriate time to buy one, because I want to take some awesome photos in Tanzania. I finally found the perfect excuse. So, hopefully I can take my own blog photos soon! Yay!

Thinking about it… That’s really all I’ve got in terms of news, haha. I finished my junior year of college, so there’s that. It was my favorite year so far. I moved out of my apartment but will be returning to the same one next year. I loved that lil thang.

As for my summer: I will be in Tanzania until the end of June. I highly doubt I will be able to post while I’m there, as the Wifi is slim to none. Hopefully I can post pictures though! I will mostly be posting on Instagram, so if you’re interested, you can follow me here.

After I get back from Tanzania, I honestly I am not sure what to do. I quit my job here in town last summer so I don’t plan on returning there, and I’m not sure anyone wants to hire a girl who only plans on being there from early July until mid-August. I might just not have a job, and that’s fine I guess.

I do think that will mean more blog posts which is really exciting. As usual, it’s my goal to post more, and I’m usually much more inspired to over the summer, so I don’t expect that to be a problem! I hope to have a schedule, but you’ll hear more about that when the time comes. Let me know in the comments if you have any requests for posts!

Also once I come back from Africa I plan on being back at the gym. My last post was about getting fit and the health kick I had been on, which has slightly tapered off since my final exams and travel plans have been in the works! But it’s definitely something I want to keep up, so I plan on getting back to the gym and lifting weights again right after!

Other than that, I think I might just try to relax this summer. It’s my last summer before I graduate undergrad soooo? For some reason that sounds like a good time to relax haha. Or maybe I’m just lazy. Probably a little bit of both.

Let me know what your summer plans are or anything you’d like to accomplish, start doing, etc.! I am in need of ideas.

Also, if anyone has any supreme camping tips…. Ya gurl is in need.

Bon voyage!
