10 Ways I’m Upping my Blogging Game

Hopefully, you’ve all noticed some changes to my blog in recent weeks, starting with my new blog theme!

The new theme was my birthday present to myself (my birthday was in July) – and I thought the new theme would make my blog look more professional and trendy. I think it worked!

I’ve really rekindled my passion for blogging over the last couple of months and wanted to share with you some ways that I’ve been upping my blogging game here on Anthropolojay, and some ways I plan on continue to up it into the fall season.

I’ve been slacking a bit on my Blogging Goals for 2017, but I’m trying to make up for it!

My hope is for this post both to be informative and also helpful if you have a blog that you’re looking to improve. Let me know if you have any additional suggestions, I would really appreciate them!

New blog theme.

We’ve obviously just discussed this one. I think a nice blog theme does wonders for your brand and makes your blog more enjoyable to read.

You don’t necessarily always need to spend money in order to find a great blog theme, but I personally thought it was worth investing in this one.

More content.

I’m working on getting on a schedule and also trying to find ways to branch out with my content. I haven’t quite figured out what my posting schedule will be once school starts (2 or 3 times a week? I can’t decide), but I have a plan to post regularly and keep my name out there in the blogging community. For this last bit of summer, my posting schedule is MWF, but this will potentially change in just one week.

I’ll keep you posted on that!

As for branching out, I recently started an Instagram for my blog. This seems like an obvious good idea, but I struggle a lot with photography! That’s definitely a main goal of mine – improve my blog photography.

More helpful, interesting content.

Along the amount of content I’d like to put out, I obviously also want to make it better for you guys. I’ve been working on making my content more relevant and helpful to you guys, providing tips/inspiration/etc.

For example, while this blog post is very much an update on my blog, I’m hoping that it is equally helpful to my blogging friends out there who are looking for ways to improve their own blogs.

See? Personal, but also hopefully relevant.

Also, how many times can I say ‘blog’ in one sentence?

I’m also working on making my posts just generally more pleasing and enjoyable to read. This involves finding a nice and consistent writing style and also creating some variety within it, from broken up text to bolded areas.

As you can see, I’m doing that a lot lately. Am practicing.

Scheduled tweets.

This is something I very recently started doing and am still learning how to do it well. I’m using an app called Buffer, if you’re interested.

While I haven’t given the app enough time at all to see results, I think this will significantly improve my blog traffic and possibly Twitter following, which is where most of my traffic comes from.

More original photography.

My blog photography needs a lot of improvement. I have a camera that’s capable of taking some pretty good photos and I’ve recently found an app that I think will do wonders for my photo editing (more on that later if I’m right).

I want my blog photography to be more consistent and branded, so that’s something I’m working on.

I recently made an Instagram for my blog, so that has been motivating me to take more pictures! You can follow me here.

Blog Facebook page.

I’m not really sure why I’ve put this off for so long – it’s just not the top priority at the moment. I think that Twitter and Instagram are the best outlets for me right now.

But, I think eventually I should hop on the bandwagon and make a Facebook page, if it has really helped others grow!

I am starting to like the content I’m putting out there a lot more and I want people to see it.

Advertising my blog and boosting posts can be pretty cheap and I think it would be worth trying out. I especially want to advertise with other blogs in my niche (if I even have a niche, ya know) and boost my pins on Pinterest.

This is my only game plan in this category right now, so let me know if you have any suggestions.

Be more active in the blogging community.

I feel like I’m fairly active, but I could definitely be more active and build stronger relationships with other bloggers.

Every encounter I’ve had with talking to other bloggers online has been completely positive and everyone I do talk to is so friendly! I honestly don’t know why I don’t do it more often.

Also, I think maybe I want to participate in more Twitter chats with bloggers? Honestly there are only a few Twitter chats that I am ever really interested in, so I’m looking to find more or branch out to other places I can talk to a lot of you guys!

P.S. If you wanna follow me on Twitter click here.

Pinterest engagement.

Part of this will hopefully be solved with pin boosting, but to be honest I could curate my Pinterest a lot better too, haha. It used to be my main outlet for my blog but Twitter has really taken that over.

I need to clean up my Pinterest boards (they are a little bit crazy at the moment) and pin more often, and find ways to interact on Pinterest as well.

I should also publicize my Pinterest more often. Follow me here!

Keep the fire alive.

It’s okay if I take some extended breaks from blogging every now and then – I’m even kind of expecting this once school starts in a little over a week. But I want to be able to remind myself why I love blogging!

I feel like lately I’ve found my mojo in blogging and I’m hoping to make it last as long as possible. I’m really enjoying what I’m producing, really enjoying engaging with everyone, and really just enjoying the process overall.

I think if there’s any goal to set that will up your blogging game, it’s to remember why you’re doing it and stop yourself from getting burnt out!

I hope that this post could be informative for you in terms of what I’ve been up to lately and why you’ve seen so many changes in branding on my blog and social media sites.

I also hope that, if you have a blog, maybe this gave you some ideas for upping your blogging game as fall rolls around!

I’ve really enjoyed writing, shooting, editing, and designing this site for myself and for those of you who read it. I’m really thankful for all of the feedback I receive and people I’ve met.

Enjoy the last weeks of summer! They are coming and going so fast. Fall is right around the corner, and I’m excited.

Talk to you all on Wednesday.

I totally relate girl! I’ve kind of rekindled my love for blogging lately too! I just transferred my blog to a new platform, started an etsy and have been focusing more of engagement! Really loved this post!!

These are some really great set goals. I have made a few targets that are similar to yourself. I really want to up my pinterest game as I just scroll endlessly and don’t really do much else. Being more active in the community is something else I would love to do. I have done it more recently but I’d love to be more engaged with chats and more.
    Great read,

I am with you on a lot of these! Especially Pinterest and boosting my posts! I’m a full-time grad student so luckily I have time during the day to do these things, but I can’t imagine how I will be able to keep up when I get a full-time job! I think setting blogging goals like this is a good way to hold yourself accountable so I think I will try this!

They are all great tips! Pinterest has been so useful for us lately! Writing more content also helps but it’s quite time consuming. Also, scheduling tweets in advance helps so much

    • Anthropolojay
      August 7, 2017 / 9:55 pm

Yeah, I’m already starting to know a difference with scheduling tweets! I’ve only been doing it for a couple of days now, too. Thanks! 🙂

all great ideas and goals for getting to the next step in your blog!! I have so many goals I need to set as well, but sometimes it takes a long time before I can ‘cross them off’, but writing them all down is key – most of your blogging goals are pertinent to growth and not hard to implement at all – good luck!!! xx Bee – I personally am working much more on getting more freelance/contributing jobs in addition to my own site.

That’s great Blake!! Yes, sometimes goals can be really daunting but if it’s possible to split them into smaller goals, I think that will help a lot! Best of luck to you! 🙂
